Check-in Challenge, Plus a Verse for Today

Let’s start with a check-in challenge. Make it a point to check in with someone each day – including today – that you haven’t heard from lately just to make sure they are doing OK, see if they need help or whatever. Many of us have been doing this already, so thank you. We have a special opportunity right now to practice Christ’s command to love one another. With disrupted schedules and lengthy hours in our own homes, we can easily fall into an out-of-sight, out-of-mind pattern. We can overcome it by getting in touch – by checking in – with someone that we can’t see.
Also, these words that God gave to ancient Israel make an encouraging promise for his people today. We can see them as a reminder that trials, even severe trials, are to be expected. At the same time we are encouraged to trust in the Lord who will see us through them.
(Isaiah 43:2) When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.

A Verse for Today

My verse for memory and meditation today has been Isaiah 40:31. The verses that come before that are a great lead up to it and make a very hopeful end to that chapter.
So please read Isaiah 40:29-31,
29 He gives power to the faint,
and to him who has no might he increases strength.
30 Even youths shall faint and be weary,
and young men shall fall exhausted;
31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.”
Sooner or later this whole pandemic will be over, but we should look to the Lord to renew our strength even now. There is a lot we are being told not to do, but one thing we can certainly do now is “wait for the Lord.”

KIDS Inc’s KIDS Church will be happening in the gym this evening from 7-9pm.  There will be fun and games, kids’ worship and a Bible lesson.  KIDS church is aimed at kids at the elementary school level.  Volunteers older than that are always welcome to come and help out.

At the same time we’ll also have worship, teaching, fellowship, communion and prayer upstairs at 66 Books in Horizon Hall.

The book of the Bible that we’ll look at this week – both kids and adults – will be Book 23: Isaiah.  The notes from 66 Books are all yours by clicking on the link below:
