Update: Wednesday, March 18, 2020

Dear Horizon Central Family,
My daily verse for meditation today was Psalm 23:4, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
That has been a great encouragement so far today!
Looking ahead to this evening, for those who are a part of the marriage group that is supposed to meet at our house, we will just go ahead and meet. The CDC guidelines say to limit group size to 10, but we were not anticipating more than that anyway – and you know who you are if you signed up. And we have enough room in our whole kitchen, dining, living area to keep some social distancing in place.
Looking ahead to Sunday, we were planning to cancel Sunday school for our kids till, well, further notice or something. Then things got tighter as far as recommended restrictions. So yes, we are just putting things on hold.
As for the regular Sunday service, we normally live stream anyway and will continue to do so. The doors will be open, but without Sunday school, that will limit our ability to serve families with younger children. And of course anyone who is sick or at risk of getting sick, please use some wisdom in keeping with good health practices.
Finally, none of this really prevents us from digging in deeper with Jesus or taking care of one another. In fact, there is probably no better time than the present to call, text or check in on someone to make sure they are OK. This is a perfect time for the body of Christ to stay active in meeting one another’s needs.
Let’s close with 1 Peter 4:10, “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.”

Plans for This Sunday 3/15/20

Dear Horizon Central Family. 😷

For this Sunday March 15, we are prayerfully planning to have services as usual. We are not an especially large church, so perhaps not an especially high risk group. We do however ask those who know themselves to be at greater than average risk for contagious illnesses to self-quarantine. 😷 Better safe than sorry. We do a live stream here on Facebook every week, so please join us online if you don’t show up in person.

Keep in mind that the current situation with the virus pandemic is week to week and even day to day. This announcement applies to this Sunday 3/15. By next Sunday or thereafter things may change. If you see this, please call, text or tell a friend. We want to get word out over the next few days and keep everyone in the loop. And again, please join us by live stream if you can’t make it here. 🙂

Blessings,
Dave Kosobucki

Cleansing a leper – Luke 5:12-14

Central Reflections

12 While he was in one of the cities, there came a man full of leprosy. And when he saw Jesus, he fell on his face and begged him, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” 13 And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately the leprosy left him. 14 And he charged him to tell no one, but “go and show yourself to the priest, and make an offering for your cleansing, as Moses commanded, for a proof to them.”

The leprous man expressed his faith by coming to Jesus and falling on his face before him.  In response, Jesus reached out his hand to touch him.  Normally this was prohibited because anyone touching a leper would become unclean.  In this case, the opposite happens, the leper becomes clean.  Christ’s ability to cleanse the leper was greater than any power the leprosy had to make Christ…

Jesus is in Jerusalem.  It is the final week running up to his crucifixion.  He will criticize spiritual showiness while encouraging us to practice complete love and commitment to God.
